Our Role

CAPIC is the united voice for professional photographers, illustrators, and digital artists across Canada, and a driving force behind a stronger future for the industry.

Founded in 1978 in Toronto, CAPIC has grown into a national association with chapters in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, representing image creators across the country.

CAPIC sets the standard for the industry: advocating for fair copyright law, promoting ethical business practices, and helping members navigate a rapidly evolving creative landscape, from licensing in the digital marketplace to protecting original work in the age of AI. Decades of advocacy helped secure copyright ownership for Canadian image creators over their own work, commissioned or not, and that fight continues today.

Through fee schedules, business resources, mentorship, and a national community, CAPIC gives image creators, from newcomers to established professionals, the tools to build lasting, sustainable careers.

CAPIC members create the visual content that shapes how Canadians see their world, and how the world sees Canada.
