CAPIC Honorary Member Pat LaCriox’s Toronto Jazz Treasures

26/06/2017 By Pierre St-Onge

CAPIC Honorary Member Pat LaCriox’s Toronto Jazz Treasures

Well, it took us three and a half years but Toronto Jazz Treasures is now printed and available.

The book was the brainchild of my late wife Naomi Patricia. She conceived it, named it and brought it to life. Ted O’Reilly, Gerald George, who designed and produced the book and I, Pat LaCroix ,as well as all the wonderful people who donated their time and talents to the project are very proud of the book.

It is a celebration of the fantastic Jazz musicians who live, perform and teach the beautiful art of Jazz music in Toronto.  The book consists of 100 black and white portraits I made of these musicians and the histories of their careers, beautifully written by Ted O’Reilly. This collection just scratched the surface of the huge number of Toronto’s world class Jazz players but we had to cut it off at a manageable number.

The total cost of printing the book was donated by several companies and individuals and everyone who worked on the book worked pro bono.

Thanks to these generous people, all the sales of the book will be donated to two charities.  They are The Ken Page Memorial Trust a charity in aid of musicians, and Neshama a new palliative care hospice being started by Dr. Sandy Buchman.

The book can be purchased online for $60 dollars and $15 delivery fee.

Go to the attached link to our website and give it a look.

A Day With International Author
Kenneth Oppel – by Ian Crysler

10/06/2014

Kenneth Oppel is the celebrated author of numerous books for young readers. His award winning Silverwing trilogy has sold over a million copies worldwide.  It was an honor to be asked by Ken himself to work with him in producing images in support of his latest book The Boundless.  It is a grand rip-roaring adventure story set in the most glamourous locomotive in the world, stretching eleven kilometers long.

The images were used in all forms of visual support including all social media formats as Ken did a four week promotional tour through Canada and the USA.  We had a strong day of shooting although it was very cold at the time.  Not only was I able to create some great images for his use, but I was also able to regale this famous author with my own tales of hopping freights across Canada in the 70’s.  The book is out now and you can read more about Kenneth Oppel at http://www.kennethoppel.ca  and  on his blog http://www.kennethoppel.blogspot.ca.
