BECOME A MEMBER

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

There are several types of membership in CAPIC and each category has specific criteria. General, Associate, Sustainingand Emerging Talent Members are eligible to participate in the monthly payment plan available through the national office.
Dues stated include GST or HST tax, where applicable.

GENERAL

For photographers, illustrators and digital artists of good moral character with a minimum of two years of professional experience and proof of publication as demonstrated by their portfolio and tear sheets. Freelancers and those employed in staff positions may apply. Applicants are required to be sponsored by two members or by the Membership Committee. A review of the applicant's portfolio and business documentation (Estimates, Invoices Term etc ) is required. General Members receive all the benefits available to CAPIC members, are eligible to vote and may hold office in the association.
Annual dues are $446.25 including GST or $38.19 a month. $480.25 including HST (Atlantic Provinces) or $41.02 a month.

SUSTAINING

Artist's Representatives, Educators, Colleagues, Stock Agencies, Labs, Digital Service Providers, Suppliers and Manufacturers. For persons of good moral character with a minimum of two years of professional experience in a field that is associated with photography or illustration. This includes, but is not exclusive to, art directors, creative directors, designers, artist's representatives, sales representatives, consultants, stylists, professors, instructors and studio employees/colleagues. Requirements include sponsorship letters or sponsorship by the Membership Committee and the review of a résumé and business documents (where applicable). The Sustaining member receives all of the benefits available to CAPIC members. They may vote and may hold office.
Annual dues are $446.25 including GST or $38.19 a month. $480.25 including HST (Atlantic Provinces) or $41.02 a month.

ASSOCIATE

For photographers, illustrators and digital artists who do not meet all of the criteria of a general membership but are actively engaged in or pursuing a professional career and are of good moral character. A portfolio review, letters of sponsorship and/or sponsorship by the Membership Committee is/are required. Associate Members receive many of the same benefits as General Members do, however they may not vote or hold office. After one year of membership an Associate Member may apply for General Member standing. Associate members MUST apply for General Membership after two full years as Associate Members.
Annual dues are $341.25 including GST or $29.44 a month. $367.25 including HST (Atlantic Provinces) or $31.60 a month.

EMERGING TALENT

Emerging talent membership is for photographers and illustrators who are not at the career level or confidence level necessary for Associate Membership. This category is for those who have graduated from a CAPIC-recognized course within the last three years, are currently employed as a photographer or illustrator and/or conduct business as a freelance photographer or illustrator. A portfolio review accompanied by a letter of sponsorship from a CAPIC member is required. Members in this category are eligible for all CAPIC member discounts and are covered by the CAPIC Members Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance policy. Emerging talent members are also eligible for the optional CAPIC Health insurance plans but cannot vote or hold office. Emerging Talent members must apply for Associate Membership after two years at this level.
Annual dues are $204.75 including GST or $18.06 a month. $220.35 including HST (Atlantic Provinces) or $19.36 a month.

ASSISTANT

For full-time photographic or illustrative assistants seeking to expand their knowledge and connections. Assistant members are eligible for the CAPIC Member Discounts. Assistant Members do not qualify for the CAPIC Insurance programs and are ineligible to vote or hold office.
Annual dues are $136.50 including GST, $146.90 including HST (Atlantic Provinces).

STUDENT

An ideal starting point for the entry-level creator. Network with CAPIC pros and learn valuable tips. Student members are eligible for limited CAPIC Member Discounts (insurances excluded) but may not vote or hold office. Membership is valid for one year from date of issue. Students still attending school at the end of the membership term must re-apply. Effective July 1, 2005, the Student Membership fee is $10.00, GST included.
Fee must accompany Student Member Application. Mastercard, VISA & American Express accepted accepted.

COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

Colleges and Universities offering CAPIC-recognized courses in photography or illustration are eligible for a free membership for one full-time professor/instructor. Members in this category are not eligible for optional CAPIC insurance plans and may not vote or hold office.
FREE

HONOURARY

These members are individuals who have been granted Honourary Membership in CAPIC in recognition of outstanding careers. Honourary Members are eligible for the CAPIC Member Discounts program. Honourary Membership is awarded by the CAPIC Lifetime Achievement Awards committee and cannot be applied for.
There are no annual dues in this category.

RETIRED

For CAPIC members who reach the age of 65, have been members for a minimum of 5 years and wish to remain active in their field. Retired members enjoy most of the benefits of membership at a reduced rate.
Annual dues are $100.00

FOREIGN

For those photographers and illustrators who are members of a foreign professional association that has a reciprocal agreement with CAPIC. Foreign members receive limited benefits. They may not vote or hold office.
Annual dues are $65.00 (G.S.T. not applicable).

APPLYING FOR MEMBERSHIP IN CAPIC IS EASY

1. Determine which membership category matches your skill and/or experience level from the Membership Categories list. Download the corresponding form located under the membership category decription.
2. Fill in the appropriate form and attach the required documents (sponsor forms, tear sheets, business forms etc.)
3. Either attach a cheque in full payment of the Membership fees or fill out the Monthly Payment Plan application and attach a "VOID" cheque. The Monthly Payment Plan is the preferred method of payment. We also accept Mastercard, VISA & American Express.
4. Securely package all the documents and send them to the appropriate Chapter address listed below.
