how many people are lookin to buy one?

$10,000 is a LOT of money. Hard ot justify with many of my clients not really concerned about file size any more. Would be nice to have though

Any thoughts?

The D3X is an impressive body and delivers a 70MB file.

Capture One offers excellent algorithms and handles the RAW D3X files in a speedy and efficient manner.

The current Nikon lenses are exceptionally sharp and one might argue that if your shoot people, more retouching might be required.

This body will replace a requirement for some digital back shoots with a more portable solution.

The price is a little steep, but the value and potential of earning a living with the camera body over a 3 year period out weight the cost.

Typically we will invest in ridiculous big ticket items, like cars, without hesitation, which depreciate like lead balloons.

The D3X body is a fraction of the cost of a digital back and if you already shoot Nikon FX , you have just saved on buying 2 sets of lenses.

As you mentioned, many clients are not paying for new gear and especially expensive camera bodies.

It is not the camera body that make great images, it is and always has been the photographer.

That being said, it might be important to show up at the shoot with better gear than the client.

It would seem that many people have some nice DSLRs out there.

Happy shooting!

Hi Ian,
I've had my d3x for about 6 months now, and love it. The price is steep which is why I chose to lease. Prior to this I was shooting a d2x. The difference in both camera features (i.e. lcd size) and image quality are noticeable. In my opinion, it's a great alternative to the even bigger cost for a medium format digital back.
My only criticism would be the slow buffer rate when shooting full frame raws.
Cheers,
Greg
